Responsibilities
  • Decision making:
    Responsible for making decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal (if any) support.
  • Access and use internal and external maintenance documents; diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support using diagnostic computers/software when applicable.
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine the best solution for roadside breakdowns.
  • Perform facility maintenance duties and interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint.
  • Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics.
  • Coordinate work schedules with customers, road test vehicles to identify causes of complaints, ensure quality of repair work, and deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs include but are not limited to the following areas and related PM timelines:
  • A/C & Heater, Brakes (Air and Hydraulic), Cargo Handling/Transfer/Liftgates, Electrical/Charging Systems, Clutch, Cooling Systems, Cranking System, Lighting System and Electrical Accessories, Drive Axles, Driveline, Gas Engines, Fuel Systems, PM298-related tasks, and related inspections described in the role.
  • Care for and inspect tires and wheels; service brakes and related components; identify leaks and perform related repairs or maintenance.
  • Complete PMs and inspections in accordance with OEM and Ryder requirements; use Shop Management System and electronic documentation; ensure compliance with safety, DOT, and corporate guidelines.
  • Interact with non-contractual customers, manage preventative maintenance, repair estimates, and discuss new repair opportunities; coordinate work schedules as required by customers and road test to verify repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and ensures proper maintenance of all service, safety, and environmental records.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational/technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred.
  • Basic tools required; demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires) and diagnostics/repairs (AC, electrical systems).
  • Four years or more relevant work experience preferred; CDL CLASS A preferred;
    Non-Commercial Driver License CLASS E preferred.
  • Must have minimum tools required to perform job duties as outlined in Ryder's Maintenance policy 2.02; able to take home a assigned mobile service truck where applicable.
  • Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles; pass Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, road test, and background/motor vehicle checks for the last 3 years.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to company policies; complete repair orders; build professional relationships; work independently and in a team; prioritize workload; strong verbal and written communication; self-starter and self-sufficient; multi-tasking and time management; detail-oriented with follow-up.
  • Specific maintenance and training requirements within specified time frames (e.g., PM230/PM298, BA220/BA298, FMCS 396.25, BH220/BH298, TW220, AC220/AC298, DR208, SBTIII/SBT Phase 2, OEM online diagnostic tool courses).
Other Requirements
  • Must drive Ryder vehicles; pass required screenings and verifications including drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background checks including motor vehicle records for the last 3 years.
