Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
Senior Bus Mechanic, City of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Responsibilities- Monitor and assist lower level mechanics, service aides and maintenance workers, observe and document employee performance; provide technical lead to lower level staff.
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical problems; analyze failures, determine problems and causes, recommend solutions; perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs on equipment.
- Perform diagnostic activities for gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel system engines; inspect and determine problem areas.
- Diagnose, maintain and repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, high voltage power generators, starters, batteries and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives, and propeller shafts; replace or repair faulty parts on equipment and vehicle fleet.
- Repair, adjust, or replace engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, and hydraulic and air brake systems; tune up engines and propane fuel systems.
- Fabricate and assemble parts for automotive and heavy equipment; modify and repair body panels and chassis parts.
- Repair and test revenue collection equipment and all ADA equipment on vehicles to include mobility lift/ramp, voice annunciator systems, electronic destination signs, GPS/AVL systems, and video camera systems.
- Perform vehicle and equipment safety inspections; provide detailed records of maintenance services performed; assist in the general maintenance and cleaning of shop area.
Three years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of diesel, gasoline and alternative fuel powered equipment.
TrainingEquivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.
RequiredLicensing & certification: possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability; possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license.
PreferredAutomotive Service Excellence (ASE) for Automotive, Heavy Truck or Bus certification.
Selection ProcessFrom the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
