Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
Senior Bus Mechanic – The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Senior Bus Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment in the Transit Fleet; recordkeeping; technical assistance; and the most complex and difficult repairs in the Transit Department.
ResponsibilitiesAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:Three years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of diesel, gasoline and alternative fuel powered equipment.
Training:Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.
Licensing & CertificationRequired:
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability; possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license.
Preferred:Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for Automotive, Heavy Truck or Bus certification.
Selection ProcessFrom the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
