The below listed job announcement is for a position as a Security Officer on the Campus of Methodist University, located at 5400 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Security Officers support the mission, goals, and objectives of the University, and that of the Department of Public Safety. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Protecting the Methodist University Community (Students, Faculty, Staff and guests) from theft, vandalism, and any disruption of the educational process.
• Must be willing and able to perform rescue/first responder functions during emergencies and disasters including but not limited to:
• Standing for long periods of time
• Administering basic emergency medical aid
• Lifting, dragging and carrying people away from danger
• Securing and evacuating people from all areas
• Extinguishing small fires using hand-held extinguishers or other means
• Confronting and handling domestic or wild animals on campus
• Conducting visual surveillance, foot patrol, s, and traffic details for extended periods of time.
• Securing campus facilities either by presence or through the building security plan (checking windows, doors, etc).
• Following in detail the Public Safety Manual of procedures and any directives of the Director or any supervisory staff within the Public Safety Department.
• Abiding by and enforcing all Methodist University rules and regulations; using the Student Handbook as a guide.
• Assisting the Residence Life Staff with resident hall incidents when requested.
• Assisting members of the college community when requested or summoned.
• Must be able to withstand verbal and mental pressure when confronted with opposing views or high-stress situations.
• Assisting in providing Security coverage on a 24-hour basis, as directed by your supervisor.
• Communicating effectively orally and in writing with community members and visitors to the campus when providing directions, information, mediating disputes, and advising of processes.
• Communicating effectively orally and in writing with the chain of command on security problems/issues, or when needed in student court or other formal settings.
• Communicating effectively over the radio and telephone.
• Being able to operate a security vehicle both day and night (must have a current/valid license).
• Responsible for the completion and filing of all forms (legal and non-legal), such as:
• Incident Reports
• Daily Reports
• Maintenance Reports
• Safety Reports
• Other Reports as Required

In addition, you are responsible to fulfill all rules, regulations, and guidelines of Methodist University, and to be a proper role model for the students at all times. This position is responsible for fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety, and any other supervisor assigned to the Public Safety Department.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. BSOT, BLET, Military or Security experience preferred, but not required.

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Pass a comprehensive background check
• Pass an oral interview
• Possess a valid driver's license
