Job Summary

The Athletics Custodian Facility Attendant is a full-time position that is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in assigned athletic facilities (i.e. locker rooms, weight room, gym). This position supports daily operations, practices, competitions, and special events by ensuring the facility is properly cleaned, set up, and maintained. The attendant works under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Athletics (DDA).

Cleaning standards will be monitored and inspected by members of custodial management and shared with DDA and attendant.

The daily activities include but are not limited to following 7-step cleaning methods, adjusting cleaning techniques to meet the cleanliness standard, changing assignments, and interacting with teammates, students and faculty/staff professionally.

The position requires flexibility in work hours, task scheduling, and time management. The position will be scheduled for 40 hours a week but will require overtime as needed. The position will require working weekends, evenings, some holidays, and a variety of different schedules to meet departmental needs. At the direction of the supervisor, schedule will be flexed as appropriate to meet the needs of the department and avoid excessive overtime.

Job Duties
  • Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment. This will include collecting trash and debris for removal, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, washing interior wall spaces by hand or equipment, scrubbing or striping floors, and applying floor finish using heavy equipment.
  • Operate and maintain bulk laundering system, handling detergents and chemicals, where applicable.
  • Perform preventative, restorative and corrective cleaning tasks related to assigned building and facilities, as well as other buildings or projects as assigned.
  • Identify and report items that need repair or maintenance. Complete repairs as assigned.
  • Assemble, disassemble gymnasium, and clean/ready exterior (i.e. entrance walkways, windows) of facility as directed/required.
  • Set-up for sporting and other special events as needed (bleachers, chairs, benches, tables, sound systems, podiums, special electronic devices, floor mats, and other large pieces of equipment).
  • Assist with all home football games. This would include pre, post, and during game day operations. (i.e. set up locker rooms, luxury portable restrooms, press boxes, chairs and tables, perform trash collection/removal, locking/unlocking and supervision of Riddle Center visiting team locker rooms).
  • Assist in similar job duties for other seasonal athletic events on a needed basis (soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and tennis).
  • Complete annual safety training modules.
  • Monitor facilities for safety hazards, damage, or maintenance issues and report concerns to the Deputy Director of Athletics promptly.
  • Support after-hours, weekend, or event-based work schedules as required by the athletic calendar.
  • Flexible schedule required to support athletic events with seasonal demand that may include weekend, evening or holiday work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Athletics.
Qualifications

Experience and Training:

  • Cleaning and maintenance in an university environment is a plus.
  • Any combination of experience, education or training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Standards to achieve quality through the performance of proper application of techniques and time management.
  • Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and custodial activities.
  • Basic minor repair methods or routines related to preventative and restorative maintenance.

Ability to:

  • Work independently, manage time effectively, and demonstrate initiative.
  • To comprehend and implement techniques provided through training sessions and/or feedback from Deputy Director of Athletics and custodial management.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Read and write English to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Use computers and smartphones efficiently for work-related tasks.
  • Transport moderately heavy items to and from facilities.
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Climb and perform duties on ladders or other scaffolding.
  • To interact professionally with faculty/staff, student-athletes, coaches, and visitors.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
