This is beginning level professional nursing work in providing primary, preventive, and rehabilitative care to individuals and families in the Child Health Clinic. Employees demonstrate and implement techniques of nursing care and counsel for promotion of health and prevention of disease in clinics and other standard settings within an assigned area. This employee will be aware of agency and program policies, procedures, and changes and ensure that these are followed.
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Work in cooperation with the patient, the patient s family and other clinic staff to assess the patient s health status and needs.
- Provide patient education and counseling.
- May be assigned to an outreach clinic assignment that is similar to regular in-house assignment.
- Participate in program or agency-wide planning and quality assurance activities.
This position may require the nurse to provide contraception methods subject to appropriate training and staffing cross-coverage needs.
Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Necessary Special Qualifications
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC 46.0301. - Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.
- College transcripts may be submitted online via the attachment feature or mailed to Cumberland County Department of Public Health Human Resources, 1235 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Prior to employment start date, an official transcript must be presented in its original unopened envelope.
- Basic knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs.
- Understanding of best practices, safety standards, and therapeutic outcomes related to the specific area(s) of practice.
- Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities.
- Working knowledge of available resources and organizations.
- Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions.
- Ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions.
- Some ability to oversee the work of others.
- Adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, accessing information.
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver s license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
