Teacher - NCPK – Head Start – Fayetteville, NC
Job Location: Fayetteville, NC
Employment Type: Full-time/Non-exempt
Starting Pay Range: $55, Annually
Base Pay Range: $49,000.00 per year
Overview of General Responsibilities and DutiesResponsible for the safety and well‑being of an assigned class of preschool‑aged children. Instructs in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for kindergarten. Directs the activities of a Teacher Assistant to provide high‑quality services. Ensures Head Start Performance Standards and NC Day Care Licensing Standards are met to maintain the center’s highest‑rated license.
Essential Functions- Plans and conducts individual and group activities in a safe environment to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills, such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment. Formulates long‑range plans for the current school year, creates weekly lesson plans, and develops a flexible daily schedule for the children.
- Develops and maintains accurate and up‑to‑date records on each child. Reviews each child’s progress daily. Ensures confidentiality of records. Administers developmental screenings. Establishes individual short‑ and long‑range goals for each child. Measures and reports child and class outcomes. Keeps parents informed of a child’s progress through parent‑teacher conferences and home visits.
- Serves nutritious meals and snacks to children, while instructing in proper nutrition and health care. Instructs children in personal cleanliness and self‑care practices such as washing hands before meals, toileting, and brushing teeth. Helps children develop habits of caring for their own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books. Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over stimulation and fatigue.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the Head Start classroom. Ensures the physical environment is conducive to optimal growth and development of young children. Adheres to daily cleaning schedules. Uses equipment and supplies conscientiously. Notifies the supervisor of needed repairs or replacement of equipment.
- Maintains the required child‑to‑adult ratio at all times. Recruits, trains, and evaluates classroom volunteers. Maintains records of volunteer time and service provided.
- Trains, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates subordinates. Ensures time is recorded accurately and regularly on the Web Clock. Approves weekly timesheets.
- Meeting with parents to help them learn to foster growth and development of their child. Conducts formal and informal parent‑teacher conferences on each child’s school adjustment, behavior, and developmental progress.
- Attends all assigned training opportunities. Participates in outlining a career development path with the supervisor. Training includes pre‑service, in‑service, staff meetings, and external workshops.
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with a Birth‑Kindergarten SPII License, or willingness and ability to obtain the B‑K license.
Experience: Two to four years of related early childhood teaching experience. An equivalent combination of experience, training, and education may be accepted.
Computer
Skills:
Proficiency with Internet research and Word Processing software. Adequate skills to input and retrieve data as needed.
- SP1 or SP2 license
- Current (negative) TB test with receipt
- Pre‑employment physical
- First Aid Certificate within 60 days of hire
- CPR Certificate within 60 days of hire
- Must be able to work conscientiously and effectively with minimal supervision, initiating, monitoring, and achieving classroom and project objectives.
- Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background record check and post‑offer employment and random substance abuse tests.
- Recognize and respect cultural, ethnic, and social diversity among the population served and the community at large.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and convey the necessity to coworkers.
- Exhibit tact and courtesy when representing the agency to the general public.
- Commit to continuous quality improvement.
- Familiarize oneself with policies governing program and operations, implementing them to ensure best practices are used in all instances.
