The Department of English is vigorous, innovative in its core and program offerings, invested in student engagement, and embracing current trends. The department offers degree programs in English Language and Literature;
Creative & Professional Writing;
Pre-Law; and Secondary Teaching (9-12), as well as minors in English, writing, and TESOL.
The Department of English invites applications for the tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor scheduled to begin Fall 2026. The primary purpose of the position will be to teach innovative courses reflecting current industry standards and emerging technologies, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in writing-related fields. The candidate will be expected to teach and develop new courses in composition, digital writing and rhetoric, digital publishing, technical and professional writing, and any contemporary specialty areas.
Ability and willingness to teach a variety of English courses, occasionally including language or literature as well as writing, is a plus.
- An earned Ph.D. in English from an accredited institution is required at the time of appointment.
- Some teaching and research experience, demonstrating potential for pedagogical skill and quality publication.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff at the university.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellence in, enthusiasm for, and commitment to undergraduate teaching.
- Superior communications skills - oral and written - including phone, letters, email, voicemail, videoconferencing, one-on-one, and group.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Canvas, and SharePoint.
- Proficiency with digital publishing software/platforms, i.e., Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Professional competence and knowledge of subject matter pertinent to the specialization area.
- Potential to develop scholarly activities, such as conducting research and publishing in refereed journals.
- Ability to teach a variety of courses aligned with department and university needs.
- Experience teaching both online and face-to-face courses.
- Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems.
- Experience in working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students, distance learners, and adult learners.
- Experience with core and program assessment and program review.
