Overview
JOB TITLE:
Human Resource Generalist.
REPORTS TO:
Chief Operating Officer.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resource Generalist supports Bloom’s mission by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and values-driven workplace culture. The role ensures accuracy, consistency, and compliance across HR systems and processes while supporting audit readiness and creating positive employee experiences. This role is responsible for administering and supporting a wide range of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, performance management, compliance, and HR policy implementation.
The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for employees and leadership, ensuring that all HR practices align with Bloom’s mission, values, and commitment to serving the community with dignity and care.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a human resources generalist or similar role
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Preferred
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar)
- Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
The primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment with an emphasis on attracting candidates who align with Bloom’s mission and culture
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation that clearly communicates Bloom’s purpose, values, and expectations
- Employee Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
- Support managers with performance management, coaching, and corrective action in a manner consistent with Bloom’s values
- Assist with conflict resolution and workplace investigations as needed, ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and respect
- Benefits & Compensation
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health, retirement, and leave, and serve as a liaison with benefits providers
- Coordinate accurate and timely payroll processing, including onboarding, offboarding, pay changes, and deductions
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Reconcile payroll reports, resolve discrepancies, and respond to employee payroll and benefits inquiries
- Partner with finance and leadership to ensure proper documentation, approvals, and internal controls
- HR Compliance & Policy
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop, maintain, and update the employee handbook, HR policies, and procedures; serve as the primary point of contact for ensuring employees understand and adhere to organizational policies
- Support audits, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements
- HR Administration & Systems
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HRIS data
- Prepare HR reports and metrics for leadership as requested
- Support payroll processing by coordinating changes, audits, and approvals
- Training & Development
- Coordinate employee training, professional development, and required compliance training
- Support performance review cycles and learning opportunities that reinforce Bloom’s mission and service standards
This is a full-time, hybrid position with a typical schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., including two remote workdays and three in-office days each week.
