Type:
Full‑time, in‑person (Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:45 PM)
Salary: $45,000–$65,000 (commensurate with experience)
Start date:

- Lead engaging, inquiry‑based Math Labs for elementary, middle, and high school learners.
- Meet learners in whole‑group, small‑group, and 1:1 settings—using Socratic math instruction.
- Hold regular Math Office Hours where learners get targeted support, feedback, and coaching.
- Help learners build “learn how to learn” habits: breaking down tasks, using prior knowledge, making sense of new ideas, practicing with focus, and revisiting learning so it sticks.
- Teach learners how to use ed tech platforms, AI tutors, and other digital tools wisely—supports, not crutches.
- Offer 1:1 and small‑group support for learners who need extra scaffolding in math or executive function.
- Design and manage simple, strengths‑based Support Plans / Learning Profiles.
- Differentiate tasks and scaffolds in‑class (especially grades 4–12) while keeping expectations high.
- Collaborate with Guides to integrate math work into learner schedules, portfolios, and transcripts.
- Use a mix of quick diagnostics, authentic tasks, and ongoing check‑ins to track progress and adjust supports.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with families and, when needed, outside specialists.
- Document supports and progress clearly while maintaining confidentiality and clean systems.
- Deep comfort with middle and high school math (algebra and beyond) and a willingness to keep learning.
- A coach mindset: ask good questions, resist rescuing, help learners notice and name their own strategies.
- Experience helping young people who learn differently or need support with organization, focus, or confidence.
- Ability to explain complex ideas in simple, concrete language.
- Familiarity with, or strong interest in, self‑directed and learner‑centered education.
- Comfort using AI and digital tools—and teaching young people how to use them ethically and effectively.
- Flexibility, humility, and a bias toward trying things, learning from them, and iterating.
- Tuition remission for enrolled children.
- The ability to consult for profit with our Institute for Self‑Directed Learning.
- Access to an international network of Acton Guides and the Transcend design community.
- Optional leadership training through The Forest School and our partner networks.
- The ability to audit select courses at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
- No medical benefits at this time.
If you light up at the idea of a math Studio where learners break down big problems, talk openly about mistakes, support one another, and use smart tools to drive their own growth, we’d love to meet you.
Join us in proving that learners of all ages can own their math journey—and thrive.
