Job Purpose

The Treasurer’s office personnel are committed to creating and maintaining a courteous and efficient repertoire with the citizens of Prince Edward County.

While working with the citizens of Prince Edward we are responsible for the collection of real estate and personal property taxes as well as other miscellaneous fees charged by the county.

We strive to show the citizens excellent customer service while creating lasting relationships with those whom we serve in order to better the community in which we live.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Office Duties

· Respond to telephone inquiries

· Provide excellent customer service to all taxpayers while keeping any required information confidential

· Maintain and settle cash drawer daily

· Apply payments made through the mail

· Post in office payments

· Process Virginia State tax payments

· Process land use payments

· Process dog tag transactions

· Accept payment for returned checks as well as returned check fees

· Collect for general county permits such as: building, electrical, plumbing, rental of county owned facilities (ex. SCOPE building), etc.

· Process payments for interdepartmental funds due to Prince Edward County from the Department of Social Services, County school systems, Health Department, and Sheriff’s Department, as well as other local entities and individuals.

· Update taxpayer information as necessary (ex. addresses)

· Rebill taxpayers with returned mail to newly determined location

· Research tax records for taxpayers and real estate attorneys as requested

· Balance office cash register daily at closing

· Inform citizens of any new and or updated county and office policies

· Familiarize taxpayers of due dates, fees, tax rates, etc.

· Proof read office documents, bills, other mailings and inserts

Working Conditions

Deputy Treasurer I will offer the services provided above Monday through Friday of each week from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., daily.

The ideal Deputy Treasurer will be committed to providing excellent customer service to all citizens.

As public servants, deputies are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
