The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management, including cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities. They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, while the majority of duties and responsibilities are shared.
Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service to each Guest
- Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
- Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with Team
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices
- Support personal sales goals and help teammates improve their presentations
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management
- Provide legendary service across Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area
- Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures and leverage opportunities for guest engagement
- Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals
- Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty activities
- Explore tools (inventory Manager, advanced product search, iPad apps) to expand Guest selection
- Build and maintain guest relationships to develop a client-based business
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
- Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team
- Ask business-driven and showmanship questions to Managers, Team Leaders, and Teammates
- Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations
- Act consistently in leadership duties whether or not the Manager is present
- Plan sales goals with the Store Manager
- Demonstrate ownership of store sales performance (Sales, Average Sale, Business Builders, Denim)
- Demonstrate passion for product education and showmanship to drive results
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
- Identify recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, referrals, and Teammate Recommend
- Coach and foster relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred
- Develop skills and lead, direct, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards daily
- Maintain a positive floor culture and model professional dress
- Participate effectively in daily setup, training, and reviews using the Performance Tracker
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
- Demonstrate Denim showmanship and fit card results with Teammates and Guests
- Drive department results and coordinate weekly delegation and learning goals
- Involve Guests in product experiences and keep the team informed
- With Store Manager, delegate education focus and implement weekly focus
- Assist Store Manager in recruitment of all store staffing needs
- Explain pay and Buckle Benefits; maintain contact list and recruit top talent
- Train on Leadership playbook and ensure non-sales positions receive coaching
- Identify Teammate training needs and assign zone ownership and projects
- Execute new tools and videos for zone ownership and training
- Review all four zones and ensure Visual Standards are followed
- Communicate merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and product lifecycle
