GeneralJob Description
Knowledgeable of automotive engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, power equipment and related vehicle equipment, use of tools and equipment utilized in the transportation department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for minor and major repairs of all district vehicles.
- Inspects, diagnoses, and makes necessary repairs on all district vehicles.
- Informs the Shop Supervisor about problems within the Transportation Department.
- Reports misuse or suspected misuse of district property to the Shop Supervisor.
- Maintains an effective working relationship with district employees.
- Has a positive attitude and communicates with students, parents, teachers, co‑workers and supervisors.
- Adheres to approved Board policy and administrative directives.
- Prepares work orders.
- Sweeps and cleans shop area as needed.
- Answers telephones and radios as needed and is aware of daily operation of the Transportation Department, filling in as needed.
- Maintains records as needed.
- Accepts other responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
- Must obtain a Commercial driver’s license within six months of hire.
- Will be required to drive bus and transport students as needed.
- Works with Transportation Supervisor & Asst. Supervisor.
- Becomes knowledgeable in state and federal requirements for bus repairs.
- Has a working knowledge of basic shop operations.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have 1‑2 years shop experience or 1‑2 years of technical/college training in a related field.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Passes pre‑employment drug test.
Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: sitting, standing, lifting, moving around the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds on occasion), reaching, squatting, and kneeling.
Equipment/Technology HandledGasoline and diesel fuels, lubricants, washing equipment and willingness to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work EnvironmentMust be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self‑motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After‑hour work may be required.
Terms of EmploymentSalary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
