General Summary

Learns the processes and procedures under the direction of a Mechanic and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on wastewater treatment plants and related facilities equipment on an assigned shift.

Essential Functions
  • Read and record information in Maintenance Connection. Work orders, and mechanical information sheets
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles (i.e., fluid levels, belts, tires)
  • Perform routine onsite pump station inspections
  • Test auxiliary equipment (i.e., alarms, HVAC, pumps, engines, generators)
  • Lubricate equipment and replace filters

    Assists in keeping maintenance records
  • Communicates effectively at all levels regarding recommended maintenance and repair procedures
  • Follows written and oral instructions
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
  • Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site or off‑site locations is required
  • This position required to be available on an on‑call basis for emergencies
  • Travel between work locations is required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Works under close supervision, employee’s work product is subject to close, continuous inspection. Employee receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or possession of a GED Certificate
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC’s and SCADA systems
  • New Mexico Leve II Water or Wastewater Certification
  • 12 months experience with a State approved level 1 Water or Wastewater certification.

The base salary range for this position is $22.95 to $22.95; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
