The Summer Camp Assistant Director receives oral and written directions from the Summer Camp Director, Recreation Coordinator, and/or Recreation Supervisor II who review work in progress. The Summer Camp Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Summer Camp Director in managing camper behavior, promoting a safe and positive camp environment, and supporting staff in the implementation of behavior‑management strategies. Responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring camper interactions, responding to behavioral incidents, documenting concerns, implementing conflict‑resolution practices, communicating with parents/guardians as directed, and ensuring staff follow established safety and supervision guidelines.
The Summer Camp Assistant Director also assists in the oversight of daily operations including Check‑In/Check‑Out, lunch supervision, free play monitoring, and field trip coordination. Reports tasks accomplished to the Summer Camp Director, Recreation Coordinator, and/or Recreation Supervisor II in written or oral form. The Summer Camp Assistant Director shall perform other duties as required.
The skills and knowledge required for the position would be acquired while attending college and/or a college graduate. Additionally, qualified candidates may have acquired relevant skills and knowledge through current or previous positions that involve supervising or working with children (e.g., school teachers, teacher’s aides, paraprofessional aides, etc.).
