Paralegal-Legal Assistant

Company Description:
Law firm specializing in patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and contract litigation in the Detroit area. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team.

Role Description:
This is a Part-Time or Full-Time remote, in-person, or hybrid role for a Legal/Paralegal Assistant.

• Maintaining firm calendar
• Organizing firm documents and case files
• Drafting shell documents (motions, answers, discovery requests/responses, etc.)
• Formatting pleadings, briefs, discovery requests/responses, letters, and other legal documents
• Managing filing and serving of documents
• Preparing documents for production (including bates numbering, final review, etc.)
• Conducting investigations and research on parties or witnesses
• Coordinating vendor services like court reporters and process servers
• Collaborating with our bookkeeper to track firm expenses
• Maintaining a list of active files and participating in weekly case update meetings

Qualifications:

• 2-6+ years of litigation experience in commercial or intellectual property matters in Federal Court
• Experience in civil litigation within Federal Court
• Proficiency with PACER and Mi File
• Familiarity with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Michigan Court rules
• Experience in formatting court documents (e.g., creating table of contents and table of authorities)
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and self-direct tasks, including managing court-set deadlines
• Capability to handle short-term tasks with quick turnaround and long-term projects
• Experience in patent litigation is advantageous
