Location: Grand Rapids, Lansing, or Farmington Hills, MI Employment Type: Full-Time Ensure the Safety and Integrity of our Infrastructure with Fishbeck Are you an experienced bridge inspector with a passion for public safety and structural excellence? Join Fishbeck as a Senior Bridge Inspector and take the lead on critical inspections of bridges, culverts, and related structures across Michigan. This is your opportunity to apply your technical expertise, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the long-term reliability of our transportation infrastructure.
What You'll Work On
- Lead and perform routine, in-depth, and special inspections in compliance with NBIS and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Assess structural conditions and identify safety concerns or maintenance needs.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with photographs, sketches, and condition assessments.
- Coordinate inspection schedules and logistics with internal teams and external partners.
- Interpret engineering plans, specifications, and as-built drawings.
- Use advanced inspection tools and technologies, including drones, ultrasonic testing, and bridge management software.
- Mentor junior inspectors and provide technical guidance to engineering staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop repair and rehabilitation strategies.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of bridge inspection experience.
- Certified NBIS Team Leader.
- PE license preferred.
- Proficiency in bridge inspection software (e.g., AASHTOWare, Bentley Inspect Tech).
- Strong understanding of bridge design, construction, and maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for field assignments.
