Astemo Americas, Inc is seeking an experienced Engineer for our Chassis Development and Vehicle Dynamics Team. The role focuses on full vehicle simulation for ride and comfort development, including passive and semi‑active damper technologies and control logic for semi‑active dampers. Responsibilities include designing, planning, testing, and coordinating simulation processes, data analysis, and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HiL) activities while coordinating with OEM customers and internal departments.
Job Responsibilities- Calculation processing and correlation (20%)
- Coordinate procedures concerning targets and methods.
- Involve in development of calculation standards and practical application.
- Conduct CAE correlation, support measurement setup, and create correlation reports.
- Build models and prepare them.
- Translate customer requirements into simulation inputs (5%)
- Determine customer requirements with respect to Vehicle Dynamics modelling and review specifications.
- Process calculations of sub‑systems and components per customer requirements, following internal guidelines.
- Preparation and evaluation design (10%)
- Prepare alternatives and improvements to relevant design levels.
- Evaluate design proposals and support test concept development.
- Correlate calculation results with test data.
- Support CAE Full Vehicle analysis and damper modelling (15%)
- Support programs and RFQs for CAE tasks and verify results.
- Support demo car virtual tuning activities.
- Simulator operation (15%)
- Prepare the Driver‑in‑the‑Loop (DiL) simulator for evaluations.
- Operate DiL simulator during virtual tuning and evaluations.
- Integrate DiL simulator with HiL systems.
- Damper preparation, testing and modelling (10%)
- Build and test take‑apart dampers to support customer tuning and lab testing.
- Run damper testing using various damper dynos.
- Post‑process data to prepare virtual damper models.
- Documentation (5%)
- Document calculation results for design levels as CAE reports per standard.
- Create, provide, and administer technical documentation.
- Controls logic development (20%)
- Apply control logic in virtual development.
- Simulate control logic and support in‑house tuning using simulation tools.
- Develop new control logic on virtual environment and support deployment on demo vehicles.
- Exhibit strong knowledge of damper and ride development metrics.
- Develop strong working relationships with customers.
- Lead support technicians during ride work at customer locations.
- Gather and analyze objective application data from lab and vehicle testing.
- Lead or support development of test and tuning processes, procedures, and documentation.
- Operate computer‑controlled test equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Provide troubleshooting and problem‑solving support.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions for technical challenges.
- Maintain precise damper change logs and tuning reports.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of vehicle simulation or dynamics experience.
- Understanding of the relationship between shock performance and vehicle dynamics.
- Knowledge of shock fundamentals, concepts, and performance.
- Expert knowledge of vehicle dynamics and objective/subjective vehicle evaluation.
- Knowledge of control systems from hardware, software, and algorithm perspectives.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation tools such as VI‑Grade Car Real Time or equivalents.
- Experience with control logic for semi‑active dampers.
- Proficiency in MATLAB or other 1D simulation tools.
- Experience with AI tools and CAD software is a plus.
- Strong detail orientation, organizational skills, and ability to process tasks efficiently.
- Experience with driver‑in‑the‐loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop systems is bonus.
- Experience in product development within OEM or Tier 1 environments is a perk.
- Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driving license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel and support global activities and coordination.
Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
Master’s degree preferred.
5+ years of applicable experience in computational engineering or CAE; less experience considered with a Master’s degree.
