Salary Range
Target Hiring Range: $46,000 - $55,000 (Determined Based On Qualifications)
Job OverviewThe purpose of this position is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public and to enhance the quality of life within the City of Farmers Branch through the education and enforcement of regulatory standards, including property maintenance requirements, building standards, business regulations, solid waste regulations, and zoning requirements.
Responsibilities- Conduct field inspections on varying types of properties.
- Participate in the execution of one or more specialized Code Enforcement programs.
- Assess inspection results to determine compliance or a correct path for compliance.
- Perform research, including property histories, public records, court documents, and maps.
- Generate and issue documentation such as letters, notices, citations, work orders, and legal documents.
- Effectively manage a caseload, document case activities and evidence, and track conversations with government officials, the public, and other city staff.
- Maintain successful working relationships with other city staff to correct code issues and respond to inquiries.
- Testify in municipal court as required.
- Work with members of the public to assist them in gaining compliance with city ordinances in a customer‑friendly manner.
- Attend neighborhood meetings (sometimes outside normal working hours) to engage and educate the public about ordinances and processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least three years of customer service and problem‑solving experience.
- Up to two years of directly related inspection experience preferred; preference for candidates with code inspection experience.
- At least one year of experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
- Ability to manage a caseload with little supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn and use various computer software and hardware effectively and in accordance with city policies.
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers.
- Reliable, punctual attendance.
- Capacity to learn and retain relevant knowledge and skills to competently complete work responsibilities.
- Analytical thinking, objective decision making, and execution without prompting.
- Professionalism, credibility, accountability, and commitment to performance expectations.
- Empathy, courtesy, tact, active listening, and time‑management skills.

- Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends as necessary.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Texas Code Enforcement Officer License required or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review.
Work EnvironmentExposed to weather conditions during inspections. The job requires walking for extended periods, often on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, light carrying (less than 25 lb.), driving, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and reaching while conducting inspections.
