Laser Welder Operator

Trystar’s Laser Welder Operator will be based in Faribault, MN and play a critical role in achieving strategic objectives and in becoming a leading custom solution provider.

Responsibilities
  • Laser Welding:
    Perform hand laser welding on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless-steel materials with precise heat control and filler metal to create strong and aesthetically appealing welds.
  • Weld Preparation:
    Clean and prepare aluminum and mild steel surfaces for welding, removing contaminants to ensure weld quality.
  • Material Inspection:
    Examine and verify the integrity of materials to ensure they meet quality standards before welding.
  • Welding Parameters:
    Set up and adjust welding equipment, including selecting the appropriate TIG welding torch, gas flow, and amperage based on material thickness and type.
  • Weld Quality Control:
    Inspect finished welds for defects using visual inspection and non-destructive testing methods as required to meet specifications.
  • Welding Joints:
    Work with butt joints, lap joints, and fillet welds according to project specifications.
  • Safety Compliance:
    Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols for light laser welding, ensuring compliance with company and industry safety regulations.
  • Material Handling:
    Safely handle and move aluminum materials and welded components during the welding process.
  • Production Monitoring:
    Monitor manufacturing processes to maintain a steady workflow and address deviations; interact with job orders and Epicor.
  • Documentation:
    Record production data in Epicor, including machine settings and maintenance activities, to support process improvement.
  • Collaboration:

    Collaborate with supervisors, fabricators, and quality control personnel to ensure efficient workflow and timelines.
  • Operations:
    Read, comprehend, and execute SOPs to operate equipment and manufacture products properly.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Maintain and operate hand tools, perform routine maintenance on welding equipment, and inspect components to extend lifespan.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Basic Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of measuring tools and weld quality inspection.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and train welders on welding symbols, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with different grades and types of aluminum and their welding requirements.
  • Strong shop safety procedures and PPE usage.
  • Able to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
  • Weld small and large components such as mild steel tubing, aluminum, and stainless steel.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend plant directives in English.
Additional Qualifications
  • Completion of a basic welding course or vocational training in welding.
  • Perform simple mathematics to interpret process sheets, SOP manuals, tally sheets, and to track materials including scrap.
  • Physical strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds intermittently.
  • Frequent lifting, standing, bending and reaching required.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
