JOB TITLE:
1.0 FTE Social Studies Teacher - ALC
This is a licensed teaching position that works directly with students who are eligible for receiving their education in an alternative setting. The teacher is responsible for the planning, assessment, instruction, and differentiation of curriculum for U.S. History, World History, American Government, Economics, and Geography. Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment and be flexible with students and staff to create a student‑centered alternative classroom is a must.
Collaboration with parents, colleagues, and administrators is key. This position will commence with the 2026‑2027 school year.
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies to improve student outcomes.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity.
- Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
- Address the physical, emotional/mental, social, intellectual, and moral developmental needs of students.
- Develop creative weekly lesson plans that meet the needs of student learners.
- Deliver instruction using appropriate resources, equipment, materials, technology, and instructional strategies.
- Provide differentiated instruction based on each student’s functional level and/or modalities.
- Serve as a positive role model through respectful interactions with students and staff.
- Maintain constant and ongoing communication regarding students and all program facets.
- Create and support implementation of behavior improvement plans.
- Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director.
- Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Social Studies; multi‑licensure preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Experience working with students who may be at risk or have special needs.
- Effective communication/interpersonal skills.
- Experience with curriculum and instructional strategies for differentiated instruction.
- Experience working with high school students and programs.
- Experience developing relationships with a multicultural community.
- Experience working with at‑risk students and trauma‑informed practices.
Bilingual/Bicultural beneficial.
SalaryBased on FEA Master Contract.
