Position OverviewAs a Forklift Service Road Technician, you will repair and maintain electric, propane, CNG, diesel lift trucks, and customer equipment. Qualified applicants should have a mechanical background with forklift repair experience. We welcome candidates from heavy, agriculture, or construction equipment backgrounds, and recent graduates from technical schools in automotive and/or diesel repair are strongly encouraged.
Duties and Responsibilities- Accept repair orders assigned by the Service Manager, Service Dispatch, or other designated personnel.
- Service forklifts in the following Minnesota counties:
Clay, Wilkin, Otter Tail, Becker, Mahnomen, Norman. - Service forklifts in the following North Dakota counties:
Cass, Richland, Traill. - Coordinate with service office staff to communicate necessary repairs and obtain customer approvals.
- Read work orders, observe, and listen to trucks in operation to diagnose malfunctions or problems.
- Offer solutions that meet customer specifications.
- Submit work orders promptly and provide estimates when appropriate.
- Repair, service, recondition, or assemble equipment as approved by the customer or Service Manager.
- Obtain necessary parts by working cooperatively with the Parts department.
- Perform mechanical repairs after a complete inspection and analysis of the breakdown.
- Record a complete repair description on the work order, including correct model and serial number, and document hour‑meter readings.
- Obtain customer signatures and communicate repair details to the customer.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices on trucks, making necessary adjustments.
- Lubricate moving parts and test repaired trucks to verify conformance to specifications.
- Maintain a professional image and keep the service van clean, both inside and outside.
- Operate shop equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Notify the Service Manager or Supervisor of safety issues and/or accidents immediately.
- Perform quality work quickly and professionally.
- Promote marketing efforts to drive parts, service, equipment, and rental sales.
- Complete service forms and submit them directly to the Service department daily via the work tablet.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; CDL may be required.
- Experience in forklift repair is desired, with intermediate maintenance experience required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively communicate with customers and employees.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Provide own tools immediately (annual tool incentive is given).
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Three or more years of mechanic experience and/or related education.
- Basic computer and internet software knowledge.
- Pay range: $24–$36 per hour.
