Position: Refrigeration Maintenance Technician Wald Family Foods

Overview

The Refrigeration Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of all refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment; and for assisting advanced-level maintenance positions in keeping all equipment and the facility in good repair to ensure continuous and effective operation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a two-year degree in a specialized maintenance trade is preferred.
  • 2 years minimum of related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot; good problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration, maintenance, boilers, and ammonia compressors.
  • Must be able to don/doff and utilize an Air Purifying Respirator (APR) and/or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); HAZMAT certifiable.
  • Ability to obtain a boiler license.
  • Advance Electrical and Maintenance knowledge/experience required.
  • Ability to complete work orders and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and complete required paperwork.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Mechanical knowledge and ability to expand knowledge and skills via on-the-job and formal training directed at increasing job-related skills as mandated by management, including all required OSHA training.
  • Basic computer skills, including applicable maintenance modules.
  • Ability to obtain a valid forklift license.
  • Ability to comply with all general safety policies and procedures in accordance with Company, Local, State, and Federal OSHA rules and regulations.

Essential Functions

The Refrigeration Maintenance Technician will ensure smooth operation of the systems and machines, including, but not limited to:

  • Inspecting air conditioners, dehumidifiers, compressors, evaporators, safety pop-off valves, filters, and freon refrigeration units daily for proper lubrication, coolant, oil level, air flow, and defrost cycles.
  • Maintaining and checking boilers for proper operation and water treatment levels. Cleaning evaporators and condensers to ensure free exchange of airflow and inspecting evaporative coils daily for correct operation of fans and glycol pumps.
  • Installing and replacing motor pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, and fuses in all refrigeration areas.
  • Repairing and replacing improper fittings and broken refrigeration pipes.
  • Assist in ordering refrigeration parts and keeping all written refrigeration records up to date.
  • Performing setup and teardown of equipment and assisting with major repairs and/or construction required to plant buildings and stationary equipment, fabrication of parts, and installation of new plant equipment.
  • Performing more advanced refrigeration duties, including but not limited to isolating ammonia lines and ammonia systems, replacing valves and ammonia pumps, resetting and restarting compressors, checking tension on spiral freezing belting, adding and removing modular freezing belting, calibrating temperature probes, and calibrating CO2 monitors.
