Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Technician
The Equipment Technician II performs a variety of technical, mechanical and general repair or maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment. This is the second level of a three level series. It is differentiated from the first level in that tasks are of a higher level of technical difficulty involving diagnostic skills and major component rebuilding. The Equipment Technician II performs work on high value equipment where proper preventive maintenance is necessary in order to preserve assets and avoid injuries attributable to equipment failure.
Work direction and training will be provided to less experienced technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
:
The job requires an associate's degree in an appropriate mechanical specialty, such as automotive and diesel technology, and three or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class
B) with an air brake endorsement is required. Appropriate DOT certification and ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification are required. Incumbent will also be required to furnish a complete set of hand tools needed to complete the essential duties of the position.
Skills and Abilities
Include:
- Knowledge of proper and safe procedures of hazardous materials handling.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the workplace.
- Knowledge of machine shop practices, welding, cutting, and other metal working techniques.
- Knowledge of concepts, principles and techniques relating to the operation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of automotive and diesel equipment.
- Knowledge of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brake systems, HAVC, fuel injection, electrical, electronic and computer diagnostics.

- Skill in written English sufficient to read technical manuals and instructions.
