Position: Research Assistant Professor (Oat and Winter Wheat Breeding)
OAT AND WINTER WHEAT BREEDING POSITION.

Description & Details:

This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU), with a 100% research appointment as a research assistant professor. The selected individual will lead and manage the consolidated oat/winter wheat breeding project y will develop cultivars and genotypes of oat and winter wheat suited to North Dakota and neighboring regions, using both traditional and modern plant breeding and genetic techniques.

They will join a team of scientists with different expertise dedicated to germplasm enhancement and cultivar development, including breeding and genetics, plant pathology, and field production. The person is expected to share research results with the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international scientific conferences. They will also actively interact with stakeholders at grower meetings and field days.

Additional duties include advising graduate students and collaborating with other faculty members.

Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in plant breeding or a related field, with proven expertise in applied field and integrated molecular breeding of field crops and germplasm improvement; experience in the breeding and genetics of oat and wheat; a strong understanding of both new and established tools for modern breeding; and the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with clients, colleagues, and scientists.

Excellent oral and written English communication skills are essential. The candidate will conduct both applied and basic research in the field, laboratory, and greenhouse.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include experience in plant pathology and/or related fields; experience designing and analyzing field trials using advanced statistical methods; a basic understanding of bioinformatics; and experience in grant writing.
