Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Urology

Summary

The VA Fargo Healthcare System is recruiting (1) full-time Advanced Practice Nurse-Urology. The Urology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an important member of the urology team. The incumbent functions as an agent of the Urologist – providing patient care as an extender of the Supervising Physician's practice. As an agent of the Collaborating Physician – the NP functions within defined levels of autonomy as outlined in the scope of practice.

• Duties include:
  
  performing initial and follow‑up history and physical examinations – screening outpatients and providing ongoing care – ordering diagnostic tests and consultations – accompanying Urologist on daily rounds of inpatients – writing discharge orders under the direction of the Urologist – providing education and counseling to patients and families – and performing urology treatment.
• The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate, complete, and timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient's electronic record.
• This is accomplished by utilizing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• The incumbent is responsible for the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients.
• The incumbent adheres to safety, health, and infection control standards, regulations, and work practices, as well as ergonomic standards.
• The incumbent reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials.
• The incumbent assists in orientation of new staff and will provide patient and family education, including informed consent.
• The incumbent maintains supplies, equipment, and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency.
• The incumbent demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
• The NP is expected to participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other responsibilities assigned.
