- Inspect products to ensure they meet quality and contract specifications and external certification standards.
- Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
- Ensure materials and workmanship comply with UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, or City of LA standards, drawings and specifications, as applicable.
- Inspect materials and finished goods to verify customer requirements and contract specifications, including welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work and coatings.
- Review welding specs/requirements for each project and collaborate with the team to resolve fabrication challenges.
- Document and segregate non-conforming fabrications and workmanship; work with site management to address remedies and prevention.
- Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per site.
- Supervise and/or conduct Welder Qualification Test Reports (WQTR) to AWS (D1.1 and/or D1.5) and CWB standards, as applicable per site.
- Annual calibration of welding equipment, QC inspection equipment and pre-qualifications for bolts, as applicable per site.
- Stay current with AWS CWI and City of LA Supervisor/Inspector licenses, code analysis, industry standards, procedures and processes, as applicable per site.
- Support and implement the company Quality Management System.
- Work with Quality Assurance & Site Managers to develop annual training programs to minimize product non-conformance.
- Represent the company on field issues requiring investigation and decisions related to product quality and conformance.
- Maintain safety and housekeeping controls; willingness to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
- Prompt and dependable attendance; perform other duties as assigned.
- Welding inspection training.
- Knowledge of applicable standards (AWS, City of LA, API, UL, STI).
- Strong understanding of contract documents and blueprint reading.
- Leadership and teamwork to motivate quality workmanship.
- Ability to accept responsibility, be thorough and be credible in the workplace.
- Decision-making and problem-solving skills; dependable and trustworthy.
- Commitment to True North Steel values and continuous improvement.
- Minimum five years welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel.
- AWS Certified Weld Inspector or Associate Inspector is preferred.
