Under direction, performs professional nursing to clients in their homes, at clinic sites, correctional health, school settings, etc., as part of a comprehensive public health program and to employees in the occupational health program, including assessments, treatment plan development, and education. Carries out programs and provides services to protect and preserve the health of the population through application of public health principles.
Plans and provides direct care, makes referrals to providers, and evaluates services.
Scope of Responsibility
:
Responsible for the quality and accuracy of own work. Complies with current ND Nurse Practice Act and scope of practice. Work is performed independently under general supervision. Provides direction to Home Health Aides, LPNs, other ancillary staff, and students. Responsible for the care and safe operation of equipment.

Special Assignment – School Nurse
:
Additional responsibilities include maintaining confidential health records following HIPAA and FERPA, administering medications, serving as a resource, participating in committees, conducting home visits, and planning health fairs.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in nursing, two or more years of experience, a valid ND RN license, and a driver’s license. Experience in Occupational Health is preferred for that assignment.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of nursing principles, community resources, and nursing process.
- Skill in administering treatments, performing procedures, and communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively across cultures and socio-economic levels, and establish effective working relationships.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
:
Work occurs in various settings with activities including patient care, computer use, reading, and light work. Regular lifting, pushing, pulling, and driving are required. Activities involve stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, and other physical tasks. Exposure to hazards such as body fluids and contagious diseases is possible.
Physical demands are consistent with medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. The role may involve dealing with emotionally charged individuals and environmental hazards.
