Position: Senior Test Engineer (Permanent)
Work Arrangement:

Hours:

40 per week | Flex-Time Available | Early Finish Fridays

Role Overview :

The Senior Test Engineer will play a critical role within the R&D team, responsible for designing, developing, and executing structured test procedures that support the validation, performance, and qualification of fibre optic sensing products throughout their development lifecycle. This role combines hands-on testing, test fixture and control system design, data analysis, and system-level troubleshooting to ensure products meet design intent, performance targets, and industry standards.

Working closely with Engineering, Production Engineering, and Operations teams, you will help identify root causes, validate design improvements, and support production readiness through robust testing and clear analytical reporting. You will contribute to continuous improvement of products, test methods, documentation, and tooling, while maintaining high standards of traceability, quality, and communication.

Key Responsibilities:

* Plan, design, and execute test protocols, procedures, and hardware across the product development lifecycle.

* Develop test fixtures, instrumentation, and control systems to support mechanical, environmental, functional, and accelerated testing.

* Design and implement automated test systems to improve repeatability, efficiency, and data quality.

* Capture requirements and develop test plans aligned with product specifications, design intent, and industry standards such as ISO and BS EN.

* Diagnose technical issues during testing, identify root causes using structured problem-solving methods, and recommend corrective actions.

* Record, analyse, and interpret test data to validate product performance and compliance with design requirements.

* Produce clear technical reports and communicate findings to engineering, R&D, and project stakeholders.

* Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to support product development, production readiness, and continuous improvement.

* Support troubleshooting of manufacturing issues and validate process improvements through structured testing.

Candidate Requirements:

* Degree or HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

* Strong understanding of test methodologies, instrumentation, measurement techniques and experimental validation.

* Hands-on experience with prototype testing, troubleshooting, and development test setups.

* Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or Python.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills with strong attention to detail.

* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and operational teams.

Desirable:

* Experience designing test fixtures, rigs, or mechanical systems using CAD tools such as Solid Works.

* Familiarity with electronics design tools such as OrCAD.

* Experience with data acquisition, instrument control, and automation tools such as LabVIEW.
