Overview

Caring Hearts Childcare Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced childcare director to lead our early childhood education program in Falmouth, ME. This is a full-time leadership role for overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, curriculum development and licensing compliance of our childcare center. We are looking for someone with experience in play-based education. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills and commitment to creating a safe, enriching environment where children thrive.

The position works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure program excellence, financial sustainability and community engagement.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 Years Experience in a related field
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Strong Leadership Skills
  • Team player with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to partner with coworkers and work with the public in a positive and friendly environment.
  • General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software.
  • MRTQ Certifications within 30 days of hire
Essential Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field, and closely related work experience. Prior experience contributing directly to a successful child care program that has created a stimulating, professional environment where employees have grown personally and professionally.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with the Board of Directors to promote healthy living, social responsibility and youth development.
  • Serves as a role model for staff, participants and the community.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to develop and manage a responsible budget and provide monthly feedback for any material variances. Works closely with the Board of Diorectors to manage grants and grant reporting. Develops program performance metrics and reports to track progress towards financial and nonfinancial goals and identify opportunities.
  • Designs and implements procedures for purchasing, inventory, marketing, staff training, curriculum, scheduling, communication processes. Monitors staff schedules, manages substitutes and addresses staff shortages to ensure appropriate classroom coverage.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to set competitive tuition rates that reflect the quality of care and meet financial goals. Oversees and works closely with staff monitoring, billing and bookkeeping.
  • Oversees implementation of DHHS Childcare Licensing Rules and MRTQ facility ratings.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to organize family and community outreach events.
  • Regularly performs safety checks of their department spaces and is prepared to address emergencies at all times. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Provides continuous coaching through observations and feedback to support staff growth and ensure they meet program standards.
  • Organizes professional development opportunities, including workshops on child development, behavior management, and safety. Mentors staff and provides support for lesson planning and classroom management strategies.
  • Coordinates with the Board facilities committee to conduct regular safety checks on playground equipment and other outdoor facilities to ensure equipment is in good condition and free from harmful substances. Regularly assesses facility needs and partners with the board of directors’ facilities committee to ensure timely repairs or upgrades to maintain an environment conducive to learning and child development. Oversees cleaning and maintenance schedules, ensuring staff follow health and cleanliness protocols.
  • Develops and regularly updates emergency procedures including evacuation plans and fire drills. Ensures all staff are trained and familiar with their roles during an emergency. Keeps first aid kits and emergency supplies fully stocked.
  • Adheres to state mandated reporter training and recognizes signs of abuse and neglect and reports to the appropriate authorities. Monitors children for signs of illness and documents per policy
  • Oversees administrative tasks including processing registrations, collections and optimizing program capacity.

Salary: $ 75,000-$85,000
