POSITION: Residential Support Specialist.
REPORTS TO: Residential Coordinator.
CATEGORY: Part-time/Non-Exempt/Permanent.
LOCATION: In-Person, Falls Church, Virginia.
PROGRAM: Bailey's Crossroad Community Shelter.

Position Summary

FACETS is excited to hire multiple part-time (morning, evening and overnight shifts available) client-centered, and trauma-informed Residential Support Specialists for Bailey’s Community Shelter, a 52-bed program serving single adults experiencing homelessness, with two additional floors dedicated to Permanent Supportive Housing. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting residents as they work toward stability and independence.

Residential Support Specialists play a crucial role in providing 24/7 direct support and guidance to individuals residing in the shelter. This position involves assisting residents with daily needs, addressing immediate concerns, monitoring compliance with shelter rules, medication monitoring, and crisis intervention. This position is also responsible for maintaining safety and security for residents and ensuring smooth program operations at all times.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about working with individuals experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate brings strong interpersonal skills, sound independent judgment, and experience in homeless services, and an empathetic approach. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages the front desk and provides direct supervision and assistance to clients, fostering a safe and supportive environment by enforcing shelter rules for clients, monitoring client activities, and providing ongoing support.
  • Responsible for providing staff coverage to ensure the safety and security of residents, and the program at all times including responding to crises and facilitating appropriate interventions.
  • Assist the case manager in developing, implementing, and monitoring residents’ individual service plans to support progress toward housing stability and personal goals.
  • Collaborates with other staff members to ensure the residents’ needs are met, including providing supportive counseling, life skills training, or transportation as needed.
  • Conducts regular internal and external walkthroughs of the entire facility on an hourly schedule or as needed throughout each shift, and promptly reporting any maintenance, health, fire or safety concerns to ensure a secure, clean and well-maintained shelter environment.
  • Document residents’ behavior and progress in HMIS ensuring accurate, timely and confidential recordkeeping in accordance with program and data quality standards.
  • Creates a welcoming, inclusive environment while maintaining the highest professional standards in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Represents FACETS in the community, in accordance with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of current social services, homelessness, housing issues, and methods/approaches to address housing concerns.
  • Knowledge or understanding of tenants’ rights and responsibilities as well as “strengths based” case management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Candidate must be able to lift items weighing 10-50 pounds.
  • Candidates will be required to pass criminal background checks.
  • CPR Certification Preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance.
  • Ability to drive 15 passenger vans.
