Job TitleBuilding Engineer
Position OverviewThe Building Engineer is committed to maintaining building systems and equipment, providing concierge‑style service to tenants, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring the property’s appearance and safety.
Primary Responsibilities- Comprehend and interpret instructions and memos; ask clarifying questions.
- Operate necessary manual and power‑driven tools.
- Provide concierge‑style customer service to internal and external partners.
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes, regulations, governmental agencies, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
- Inspect building systems, including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing, to ensure operation within design capabilities.
- Perform contract work such as landscaping, snow removal, HVAC, plumbing, and cleaning.
- 3 years of experience in commercial building operations, property management, or related industry preferred.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Thorough understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
- Ability to present information to internal departments and large groups.
- Knowledge of industry standard tools such as multimeter, amp probe, anemometer, pressure gauges, drain auger.
- Prior experience with energy‑saving and sustainability measures.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and understand plans and prints.
- High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma required.
- EPA Universal Certification required within 90 days of employment.
- When applicable, obtain required city and/or government licenses or permits (e.g., Boiler Operating Permit, State Maintenance Electrician’s License).
- Work indoors approximately 50% and outdoors approximately 50% of the time.
- Use olfactory, auditory, and visual senses.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
- Climb stairs and ladders; access remote work areas and confined spaces.
- Use a full range of manual dexterity (sitting, squatting, bending, kneeling, walking, lifting).
