Registered Nurse; RN Cardiac ICU

Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) Cardiac ICU (Nights) – Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. Full-time 3 x 12-hour night shifts. Sign-on bonus and relocation bonus available for qualified external candidates.

The CICU is a fast-paced cardiac critical care environment that emphasizes teamwork, excellent patient care, and opportunities for professional growth. Our nursing team collaborates with Cardiac Intensivists, Medical Intensivists, Interventionalists, Cardiologists, Cardiology Fellows, and Advanced Practice Providers.

• Unstable STEMI management and post PCI/PTCA recovery, serving as STEMI responder for the campus.
• Complex cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock management, including therapeutic hypothermia, CRRT, VV and VA ECMO, Impella, and IABP therapies.
• Complex medical and mechanical circulatory support management of pre-heart and pre-lung transplant patient populations before surgery.
• Complex advanced heart failure management, including LVAD.
• Complex unstable arrhythmia management, including care of complicated laser-assisted lead removal for PPM/AICD replacement and transvenous pacemakers.
• Advanced pulmonary hypertension therapies, including intravenous Prostacyclin therapy.

• Cardiac Critical Care Education focusing on management of complex cardiovascular conditions; training and learning support through didactic days, simulations, educational symposiums, and attendance at regional and national conferences (e.g., Heart Failure, Cardiogenic Shock, NTI, Magnet Conferences).
• Professional development through Nursing Certification (CCRN & CMC) and the ADVANCE clinical ladder program.
• Dedicated CICU Clinical Educator and Mentor for onboarding, orientation, education and training, competency validation, and professional development.

• Experienced charge nurses and resource nurses on call 24/7; acuity-based staffing model; clinical technicians providing nursing and phlebotomy support.

• Engaged leadership team with nursing, medical, APP, and pharmacy leaders; 24-hour cardiology coverage; multidisciplinary rounds;
  Cardiac Clinical Nurse Specialist guidance; collaboration with respiratory therapists and ECMO specialists.

• Experience: 1 year of RN in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship.
• Education: BSN from an accredited nursing program. If RN holds an ADN, BSN must be completed within 5 years of start date.
• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
• Lifestyle: RN license or eligibility to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

• 2+ years ICU RN experience.
• CCRN certification.
• Proficiency in advanced therapy modalities (IABP, Impella, CRRT, TTM, ECMO).
• Participation in unit-based or hospital committees.
