Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Caregiver to provide part-time companion care services for a 45-year-old high-functioning female with Down syndrome (SRB) in the Falls Church and Alexandria, Virginia area. This is a newly created position with opportunities for growth into full-time hours based on mutual compatibility and needs.

About Our Care Recipient

SRB is an active, engaged individual who participates fully in family life and community activities. Following the recent loss of her mother, who served as her primary caregiver, SRB is transitioning to a new support structure that promotes independence while ensuring comprehensive care. She lives with family members who remain actively involved in her daily life and long-term well-being.

Primary Responsibilities Daily Living Support
  • Assist with activities of daily living and executive function management
  • Coordinate and participate in household chores and daily routines
  • Ensure compliance with established care protocols and schedules
Health and Wellness Management
  • Manage SRB's calendar to maintain regularity in essential health activities
  • Facilitate and participate in physical activities, including:
    • Swimming
    • Walking and movement exercises
    • Bowling
    • Gym workouts
  • Coordinate and accompany SRB to routine medical appointments
  • Monitor and support overall health maintenance
Social and Community Engagement
  • Provide companion care and emotional support
  • Facilitate participation in shopping trips and community activities
  • Encourage social interaction and community involvement
  • Support SRB's independence while ensuring safety and well-being
Family Coordination
  • Maintain regular communication with family members
  • Coordinate care plans and daily schedules with the family
  • Participate as a collaborative member of SRB's care team
  • Adapt to family routines and preferences
Required Qualifications
  • Reliable transportation:
    Must own and maintain a personal vehicle
  • Experience in caregiving, companion care, or disability support services
  • Ability to develop meaningful, supportive relationships with care recipients
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for family interaction
  • Physical capability to participate in various activities and exercises
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of developmental disabilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with individuals with Down syndrome or developmental disabilities
  • Background in health and wellness support
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid
  • Experience with calendar and schedule management
  • Knowledge of community resources and activities
Schedule and Availability
  • Primary

    Hours:

    9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Weekend

    Hours:

    Available with flexible scheduling options
  • Schedule Flexibility:
    Hours may be adjusted to accommodate the best fit for a qualified candidate
  • Growth Opportunity:
    Position may expand to full-time based on needs and performance
  • Location:

    Falls Church and Alexandria, Virginia
  • Setting:
    Family home environment with active family involvement

    Regular community outings and activities requiring reliable transportation
