Position: Elementary / Middle School Guide

Acton Academy Falls Church is an innovative Christian non-denominational preschool and school dedicated to helping children ages 3 to 15 discover their unique talents and life callings. Rooted in Montessori and Acton methodologies, the school emphasizes independence, self-confidence, emotional development, and fostering a love for lifelong learning. Acton Academy’s environment incorporates a Spanish partial immersion program, interdisciplinary projects, and learner-led goal setting and passion projects as they get older.

Acton Academy inspires students to deeply explore their potential while fostering critical thinking skills through Socratic discussions and adaptive learning software for our older learners. We are a caring, creative, multicultural, and apolitical community.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Elementary / Middle School Guide at Acton Academy Falls Church, located in Falls Church, VA. No prior experience is necessary. Training is provided. Hours are 7:45 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

The Guide will facilitate student-led activities, foster a positive and supportive learning environment, and oversee hands‑on, project‑based learning experiences. Responsibilities include mentoring students by guiding Socratic discussions, designing meaningful projects, and maintaining an organized and safe classroom environment. The guide will also encourage problem‑solving, collaboration, and the development of emotional and social skills through positive discipline methods and individualized learning approaches.

Qualifications
  • Experience with guiding, coaching, or mentoring children or youth in a Montessori, project‑based, or student‑led educational or recreational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support learner development and curiosity.
  • Ability to create and manage engaging hands‑on, interdisciplinary, and project‑based learning experiences for children.
  • Responsibility, punctuality, adaptability, compassion, and a commitment to fostering a respectful, faith‑based studio environment.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required.
  • A background in education, child development, or a related field is desirable but not required.

We determine compensation based on alignment, qualifications, and later on, performance.
