This is a Full-Time position. Extensive travel is required. Prior Long Term Care (LTC) Medical Facility Surveying experience is required.
The Remote Surveyor Manager is responsible for assisting the Survey Operations Director with survey activity under the OSP and State Contracts. The primary responsibilities are to supervise surveyors and perform surveys as directed by the Survey Operations Director. As part of these duties, the manager will identify quality improvement opportunities for survey policy and procedures and quality assurance activities. The manager will appropriately collaborate with the Survey Operations Director, Quality Assurance Manager, and other HMS administrative functions such as Human Resources and Finance on tasks that require their input.
Responsibilities/ Duties
- Identifies, interviews, and recommends surveyor candidates for hire
- Participates in recruitment meetings to discuss potential candidates for surveyor positions
- Completion of all annual and periodic performance evaluations, coaching, and counseling as required
- Completion of timesheet review and approvals
- Conducts initial orientation and onboarding for all newly hired surveyors
- Communicates all emergency issues to the Survey Operations Director and/or applicable Survey Division Management Team Members
- Refers all travel matters to the Survey Coordinator Center and the correct State Contract Manager when appropriate
- Participates in Quality Assurance team meetings and assists with providing education to surveyors relevant to Quality Assurance activities
- Meets regularly with the Survey Operations Director to share progress on surveyor status and any current challenges with recruitment, retention or training of qualified surveyors
- Provides technical assistance to surveyors
- Identifies surveyor training needs and provides oversight in the development of training courses and recommended coaching exercises
- Participates in coaching and mentoring of surveyors when assigned by the Survey Operations Director
- Works with training staff to ensure ongoing assessment of surveyors, identifying areas of retraining or continued training as needed
- Ensures regular completion of survey documentation reviews and provides training assignments to surveyors in areas identified for improvement
- Participates in investigation and communication with surveyors if/when clients report issues about the surveyors’ actions or survey skills
- Performs Surveyor duties as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent
- 8 years of relevant experience with at least five years of that experience as a certified Medical Facility Surveyor (any discipline)
- Experience training or mentoring new health facility surveyors
- Management experience or at least two years or relevant education and training in management
- Knowledge of federal regulations related to all Medicare provider types
- Knowledge of the federal survey process for all provider types
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid provider laws, rules and regulations; dispute resolution; employee training and development; and supervisory principles and techniques
- Experience with CMS or State Survey Agency operations including handling sensitive inquiries from government agency representatives
- Skilled in operation of personal computer and office systems software
- Excellent communication skills, and be well organized
