Position: COURIER - REVENUE DEPARTMENT - PART TIME

THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION! Under the general supervision of the Revenue Manager, the employee provides personal courier services for the City. The employee picks up, transports, and distributes mail and packages to and from City departments and offices. The employee is also responsible for the safe and secure transport of monies for deposit. This job is considered security-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS

Essential Function:
Courier

Picks up, transports, and distributes City mail and packages in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Checks with Mayor and Department Directors for requests, inquiries, and other pertinent information.
  • Greets and interacts with various employees and departments.
  • Coordinates with Department Directors to ensure completion of all required tasks.
  • Performs visual inspection of vehicle prior to the start of the day.
  • Drives to post office to collect packages and mail.
  • Distributes mail and packages to various City departments, buildings and locations.
  • Picks up and collects bank bags and secures in money for bank deposits.
  • Drives to bank to make deposits.
  • Tracks travel times and mileage.
  • Fuels and refuels vehicle.
  • Communicates with departments and employees.
  • Provides customer service.
  • Responds to requests and inquiries; provides information.
  • Assists in solving problems, refers complex issues to supervisor.
Non-essential Functions

Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED; some college courses in business or related field are preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of previous work experience in customer service is required.
  • Possess a current and valid driver’s license; must be insurable.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.

Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
