Overview

The Radiological Technologist is a certified health professional who, under the direction of an authorized user, is committed to applying the art and of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in diagnostic radiology.

Essential Job Functions
  • Obtain patient's clinical history and relevant lab work, ensuring documentation is available for the licensed practitioner.
  • Position and immobilize patients to best demonstrate anatomical area of interest, respecting patient comfort.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Perform radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment and associated accessories.
  • Verify informed consent and complete pre‑ and post‑procedure documentation.
  • Assist licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures and apply appropriate aseptic technique.
  • Perform timeout as required per policy.
  • Identify, prepare and/or administer medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Receive, relay and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient’s medical record.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality.
  • Document patient dose exposures.
  • Interact professionally with physicians, technologists, physician offices, hospital staff, patient family members, and patients.
  • Operate radiographic equipment and accessories in accordance with ALARA principles.
Education
  • Associate’s degree from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred).
Certifications
  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (required).
  • State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed).
Training
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
  • Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) (preferred).
Experience
  • 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred).
  • Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred).
