Position: Beach Parking Attendant

Job Summary:

This class is accountable for managing beach parking lots by overseeing parking lot operations, verifying beach stickers, selling passes, collecting fees, verifying permits, enforcing rules, keeping areas clean and providing customer service.

Supervision Received:

Receives administrative direction from the Recreation/Aquatic Coordinator, Assistant Waterfront Director or his/her designee.

Supervision Exercised:

May supervise or lead lower-level staff as assigned.

Examples Of Essential Duties:
  • Greets public and provides accurate information to visitors regarding beach and parking policies, as needed.
  • Detects incoming traffic and assesses parking flow.
  • Evaluates parking and directs patrons to park vehicles to ensure optimal utilization of area and maintain safety of all patrons.
  • Verifies parking stickers as valid and monitors lot to ensure all vehicles are permitted to park.
  • Manages, sells and distributes daily parking passes
  • Collects fees for parking while following rules for the collection and handling of money.
  • Collects and records day use fees and parking pass payments, making necessary change.
  • Restricts entry when the parking lot reaches capacity and communicates effectively with patrons.
  • Performs routine equipment checks and ensures all necessary supplies are available; maintains and stores equipment properly.
  • Will assist in enforcing the rules and regulations of the Town of Fairfield beaches.
  • Calls towing company and law enforcement to report parking violations for illegally parked vehicles.
  • Performs all related tasks as required or as directed.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Ability to work well with the public.
  • Ability to follow procedures and enforce regulations.
  • General knowledge of operations and procedures of beach sites.
  • Ability to follow procedures and enforce regulations.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations, communicating quickly and effectively to assist in providing emergency response.
  • Ability to understand and enforce all Town of Fairfield parking and facility rules, regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to accurately handle and exchange money.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 16 years of age at time of employment.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evening shifts as scheduled.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Previous experience handling cash transactions.
Schedule And Compensation:

Parking Attendants work on a rotating schedule that includes both Saturdays and Sundays. Shifts are typically 4–5 hours per day, depending on scheduling needs. The season runs from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

Temporary or Seasonal Position is Not Eligible for Town of Fairfield benefits. The Temporary employee will not be used to displace, eliminate, or cause the termination or layoff of any Bargaining Unit employee. The temporary employees will not be hired to replace or supplant a full‑time bargaining unit position.
