Position: WAITER/WAITRESS (SEASONAL)

Join our campus team as a WAITER/WAITRESS (SEASONAL) at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services.

Location:

SHU – 5151 Park Ave, Fairfield, CT 06825.

Salary: $16.35 per hour.

Job Summary

Takes food and beverage orders and efficiently delivers items to dining room guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promptly and warmly greet guests in the dining room; take food and beverages efficiently, following established steps of service.
  • Deliver food promptly and professionally; maintain safe food handling and sanitation standards; follow up periodically to assist with any additional needs or requests.
  • Demonstrate complete understanding of menu items and ingredients; advise guests on appropriate combinations of food and drinks when requested; accommodate reasonable requests and note preferences; as needed, demonstrate knowledge of specialized diets and allergens.
  • Communicate directly with back‑of‑the‑house staff to ensure that orders are delivered correctly and special requests are accommodated.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills and demonstrate ability to get along well with others; remain flexible and patient when communicating with guests and staff.
  • Collect tickets and follow proper cash‑handling procedures.
  • Promote a clean, safe, and neat environment for guests.
  • Maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality regarding personal or medical information that is shared.
  • Promptly address complaints or issues; relay relevant information or complaints directly to supervisor.
  • Ensure that the dining room is properly set up prior to and after the service period; keep area clean and neat while meeting established sanitation standards.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, including fire extinguishers, telephones, iced tea/soda machines, soup wells, and coffee machines.
  • Work with staff of other departments to perform job duties during special events and functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

However, depending on business needs, you may be required to work year‑round, potentially at a different location during break periods. Business needs may vary from year to year.
