Working together with families and communities to improve child safety, ensure that more children have permanent families, and advance the overall well‑being of children is the central focus of the Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF protects children who are being abused or neglected, strengthens families through support and advocacy, and builds on existing family and community strengths to help children who are facing emotional and behavioral challenges, including those committed to the Department by the juvenile justice system.
In your role as a Research Analyst, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and implement formal research projects and assist in these activities on more comprehensive and complex research assignments;
- Analyze, interpret and prepare data in a variety of ways;
- Prepare narrative and statistical reports;
- Develop computerized databases and analyze and interpret computer generated reports;
- Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of professional experience in research, data analysis or economics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one‑half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.
- A Master’s degree in economics, statistics or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
- Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify data needs, develop metrics and generate reports.
- Experience writing queries of multi‑table datasets for the purposes of analysis, evaluation and/or research.
- Experience using spreadsheet tools and/or statistical software to analyze data and design tables, graphs, and indicators to convey information to a general audience.
- Experience summarizing the results of statistical analyses into written reports for a non‑technical audience
