The VISTA member will build the capacity of the Fort Peck Community College (FPCC) Environmental Science program to provide more effective education and training to better serve a broader population of students in Natural Resource Management. This will allow graduates to possess a broader range of specific skills to meet the needs of more employers in natural resources management in the local community and surrounding region.
This will help break the cycle of poverty by allowing graduates to find and maintain decent jobs and careers, bringing more income to the community while meeting the workforce needs of the community and region for wildlife conservation, improved water quality, climate resiliency and food sovereignty.
FPCC serves the people of the Fort Peck Reservation and Northeast Montana by providing quality academic, vocational, and community-based programs to improve the employability and efficiency of students. FPCC empowers students so that they are the next generation of workers, leaders and citizens while preserving and promoting Assiniboine and Sioux Culture.
The project will have the long-term impact of moving the FPCC environmental science program to a broader natural resource management program that will be sustained by the College once instituted.
Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
