Job Description Summary

Miami University, a vibrant 4-year public university in southwest Ohio, is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to oversee Title IX, Title VI, and anti-hazing compliance and oversight across the university. The Title IX, Title VI, and Hazing Prevention Coordinator is a critical position responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of Miami’s compliance with Title IX, Title VI, and state and federal laws related to hazing. The Coordinator will play a key role in policy development, prevention, education, response, and investigation related to these areas. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Life, and serving as the central point of contact university-wide, this role requires a deep understanding of relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across the university.

The Coordinator will provide dotted-line supervision and guidance to Deputy Title IX Coordinators embedded in key departments.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain clear and comprehensive policies, procedures, and practices related to Title IX, Title VI, and hazing prevention and response.
    • Ensure University compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidance, including Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, Title VI, and state and federal anti-hazing laws.
    • Maintain accurate records and data related to complaints, investigations, and resolutions.
    • Monitor and analyze legal and regulatory developments and recommend policy and procedural updates.
  • Prevention and

    Education:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive prevention and education strategy for students, faculty, and staff on Title IX, Title VI, and hazing prevention.
    • Conduct training sessions, workshops, and presentations to foster a campus culture that is free from discrimination, harassment, and hazing. Ensure training is accessible, engaging, and culturally relevant.
    • Create and maintain a comprehensive and user-friendly website and disseminate educational materials and resources.
    • Work with the Office of Community Standards and with Human Resources to provide training for adjudication officers.
    • Work with Student Life offices, Intercollegiate Athletics, student organizations and other stakeholders to provide training and programming to prevent and address hazing behaviors, foster safe and inclusive environments, and promote ethical leadership within student organizations and institutions.
  • Response and Investigation:
    • Oversee and coordinate the intake, investigation, and resolution of complaints involving students, faculty, and staff related to Title IX, Title VI, and hazing, ensuring fair, impartial, and timely processes. This includes providing guidance and support to investigators and decision-makers.
    • Serve as on-call backup for the Deputy Title IX coordinators as needed.
    • Work with the Office of General Counsel, Office of Community Standards, Office of Human Resources, and Deputy Title IX Coordinators to develop investigation plans, including interviews of parties and witnesses, gather and analyze evidence, and prepare written investigative reports.
