Overview

MRI Clinical Receptionist/Patient Care Tech – POSITION: MRI Clinical Receptionist / Patient Care Tech. Responsible to: MRI Manager and Clinical Receptionist/Authorization Supervisor.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the MRI Manager and Clinical Reception/Authorization Coordinator, perform duties to support the clinical and business operations of the MRI department and medical practice, ensuring services are provided in a professional, timely and courteous manner. Duties are performed in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations governing the privacy and security of patients  PHI (Private Health Information).

Requirements

  • Medical terminology
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience working in a physician group practice
  • Knowledgeable of Anatomy & Physiology, and medical terminology
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong written, telephone and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
  • Cover both AM/PM shifts at both MRI sites in Shelton and Fairfield when needed
  • Greet patients and visitors with warmth, compassion, and commitment to exceptional service
  • Provide and explain exam preps to patients, resolve questions or concerns; seek assistance from technologists or physicians as necessary
  • Provide assistance to technologists, physicians, and other OSG staff as requested
  • Stock supplies as needed, assist patient on and off the exam table
  • Weekend hours required on rotating schedule
  • Upon check-in, enter patient via computer system; verify demographics, insurance eligibility, referrals and authorizations
  • Scan photo , insurance card and HIPAA forms in EMR
  • Provide patients with appropriate new patient paperwork
  • Schedule appointments
  • Perform daily chart checks for future visits, including insurance verification, referrals and authorizations
  • Scan/import clinical forms daily
  • Answer phones, transfer and/or direct calls
  • Obtain Medical Record Release paperwork when requested and scan into EMR
  • Maintain and distribute medical records for patient pick-up
  • Ensure release forms are completed and payments received, when applicable
  • Act as liaison between patient and other staff (including MAs, physicians, PAs, administrative staff)
  • Maintain excellent communication with technologist and patients regarding wait times or physician delays
  • Conduct thorough audit of incoming orders to ensure order and clinical information match exam and authorization; inform physician or MA if correction is needed
  • Understand health screening questions and risks associated with MR exams
  • Screen every patient to verify safety using MRI manufacturer guidelines, including Gauss/CM, magnet strength, placement and duration of implants
  • Obtain all implant information and contact manufacturers as needed to ensure patient safety before scheduling MRI; import documents for MRI clearance as per safety guidelines
  • Ensure prior diagnostic testing clearance is obtained (X-rays and/or bloodwork/GFR) and required documentation is scanned into patient s chart
  • Trained in MRI safety level II and BLS as required by ACR
  • Ensure incoming faxes are delivered/acted on promptly
  • Retrieves and responds to voice mail messages in a timely manner
Other
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software relevant to job functions
  • Attends regular staff meetings and continuing education sessions as requested
Typical Physical Demands

Work may require sitting for long periods, and also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Employee should be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds. Position requires manual dexterity to assist patients on/off the MRI table and operate a keyboard, computer, telephone, copier, and other office equipment. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing in the normal range for telephone contacts.

Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods.
