Overview
Under the general supervision of the CT Scan Manager, and according to established policies and procedures, performs CT Scan procedures in a satellite unit or in a unit requiring more advanced techniques. Works with minimal supervision of technical detail. Instructs Radiology students and/or employees in clinical procedures used in the unit. Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the unit and for patient records.
All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients. Fosters patient- and family-centered care in alignment with Lifespan and Rhode Island Hospital mission, vision, and values, considering the life span and cultural patterns.
- Utilizes experienced-based knowledge with little technical supervision to perform CT Scan procedures in routine and complex radiologic cases, including pediatrics, with capabilities such as 2D, 3D, 4D, MIP, VR, SSD images.
- Provides clinical experience for Radiology Technology students, instructing and guiding them through radiology procedures; may review student performance with a supervisor.
- Provides on-the-job instruction to employees in clinical procedures; may participate in formal in-service educational classes.
- Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as inventory and ordering of supplies, compiling statistics, and checking equipment for proper operating condition with reporting of repairs as needed.
- Understands and practices ALARA principles of radiation protection, including use of personal dosimeters.
- May direct the work of others, including assigning, coordinating, and reviewing work; may provide input into performance appraisals, counseling, disciplinary actions, or other personnel actions for regularly assigned staff.
- Maintains CT Scan department workflow and staff efficiency for maximum throughput.
- Remains proficient in special procedures, including but not limited to biopsy, drainage, and ablations (cryogenic, RF, microwave).
- Completion of an accredited program in Computed Tomography and knowledge of the requirements of CT Scan Technologist.
- Must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Must hold a current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Must have a Rhode Island state radiation license and CT supplemental license from the DOH.
