MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in special education, educational technology, education, assistive technology, rehabilitation engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, rehabilitation counseling, vocational evaluation, physical or occupational therapy, vision rehabilitation therapy, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of work‑related experience providing special education or assistive technology.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Overnight travel may be required.
This position services offices in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden, Talladega, and surrounding counties.
This position requires extensive local travel in a personal vehicle.
Position works with all ADRS service programs and partner agencies. This involves assisting individuals with various disabilities in overcoming barriers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Evaluate consumers and students with disabilities for assistive technology used primarily in educational settings. Types of evaluations may include, but are not limited to, access to computers and information technology, learning‑related technology, physical access, augmentative communication devices, ergonomics, and technology for individuals with vision and hearing impairments.
  • Research and recommend appropriate technologies and accommodations. Obtain quotes and write recommendations in reports for assistive technology.
  • Deliver and set up computers, educational equipment, workstations, and related technology.
  • Provide support and training for assistive devices and software as needed to ensure the success of accommodations.
  • Create and maintain appropriate case documentation in various databases.
  • Provide follow‑up and technical support on cases as needed.
  • The position requires functional knowledge of Microsoft, Apple, and Google products, the ability to install and troubleshoot computer hardware and software, the ability to deliver and set up assistive technology equipment, such as ergonomic chairs or arm supports, and good technical writing skills.
