As GFT continues to grow and expand, we are seeking an emerging Entry Level
Water Resources Engineer to support our Water Resources group in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum 3 days of onsite office attendance.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As an Entry Level Water Resources Engineer, you will complete hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for drainage and stormwater management to support transportation projects. You’ll also contribute to multidisciplinary engineering efforts, including erosion and sediment pollution control (E&SPC), and receive hands‑on training in industry‑standard modeling tools such as HEC-HMS and Hydro

CAD. This is a growth‑oriented position that allows for cross‑training in roadway design based on project needs and personal interest.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop hydrologic models to determine pre‑and post‑construction flows.
  • Design stormwater control measures (SCMs) based on agency design criteria.
  • Design open channel and closed drainage systems for stormwater conveyance.
  • Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support roadway drainage plan preparation, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to schedule and budget.
  • Receive guidance from senior engineers and project managers on project goals, technical challenges, and quality standards.
  • Participate in internal and external training opportunities to support continued professional development.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines throughout project development.

What you’ll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university.
  • 0–3 years of experience in roadway drainage, stormwater or hydraulic design.
  • Demonstrated interest in drainage, stormwater, or water resources engineering through prior internships, work experiences, or applied academic experiences.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Experience with hydrology and hydraulic methodologies and study preparation for PennDOT projects.
  • General knowledge of roadway drainage.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania compliance requirements.
  • Interest in cross‑training in roadway design and multi‑disciplinary collaboration.

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $70,000-$88,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
