Earn, learn and make a difference. Support adult learners and contribute to workforce development. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is hiring one paid Adult Education and Literacy Intern.
This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of adult education, working on projects that directly impact Texas communities. You will contribute to policy analysis, grant management, data analysis, and research, gaining a comprehensive understanding of AEL program operations.
The position reports to the AEL Director and will collaborate with various members of the AEL team.
Who We Are:
TWC connects people with careers all over the state. While we are headquartered on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, we have offices statewide.
This internship will be located at 1117 Trinity St., Austi n, TX. The intern will report to the office three days a week for 20 hours per week (schedule is flexible) during regular business hours.
What You’ll Do:
As an AEL Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the team’s efforts to improve adult education and literacy outcomes across Texas. You will assist with a variety of tasks, including policy review, grant support, data analysis,report development, and research. You will receive regular supervision and feedback from the AEL Director to ensure a meaningful and enriching internship experience.
The intern will receive weekly 1:1 meetings with their supervisor to discuss progress, address challenges, and receive feedback on their work. The supervisor will provide clear expectations and guidance on projects, as well as pportunities for skill development.
What You’ll Earn:
TWC Internships are full or part-time, temporary positions that cannot be filled for more than twenty-four weeks. The internship pays $1,386.18 per month at a half-time status and comes with some benefits.

You’ll also develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing adult learners in Texas.
What You Need to Get Hired:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Other Things We’ll be Looking for:·
- Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of GED certification.·
- Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university must be provided.·
- Continued enrollment may be required throughout internship.
