Job GoalThe Group Leader provides direct supervision of a group of students at the Community Education After School program site. The mission of the Community Education program is to provide safe, high-quality full-day programming to Westborough students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. The Community Education program operates 2 pm to 6:00 pm, depending on the site.
Qualifications- Must be at least 18 years old
- Education:
High school diploma or GED. - Hiring Requirement:
Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), Sexual Offender Record Check (SORI), and fingerprints - Specialized Knowledge Preferred: CPR and First Aid certified preferred; child growth and development; cultural proficiency; social-emotional learning
- At least one year of experience working with children ages 4-12, preferably in an after-school or group setting
- Experience working in a diverse public school setting
- Experience with students with special abilities, including students with physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
- Experience with English Language Learners
- Plan, lead, participate, and supervise a range of activities in indoor/outdoor settings
- Work and interact with students of all ages and diverse populations
- Take direction and follow through on tasks without supervision
- Multi-task, be self-directed, flexible, independent worker, be proactive, and take initiative
- Be punctual, reliable, and ensure regular attendance
- Able to travel to other sites to provide staff coverage
- Create a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment
- Partner and collaborate with other WCEP staff
- Communicate clearly and effectively with children and adults
- Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
Direct, organize, and supervise a group of students throughout daily activities and interact/engage with students during activities
Work with the Site Coordinator to plan and implement developmentally-appropriate activities that support academic, social, and/or emotional development
Maintain high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness in all activities
Be a positive role model for students and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and other school and program staff
Maintain communications with the Site Coordinator, including reporting all injuries, incidents, and student concerns accurately and on time
Provide students with clear and consistent expectations for behavior
Attend staff meetings and participate in required training
- Complies with federal, state, and district regulations and policies as outlined in the Westborough Public Schools Employee Handbook and the Community Ed Handbook
- Any other relative duties as assigned.
