The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to fill a vacancy for a Special Education Teacher, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Regional Program for the South County SELPA Department of the Student Services and Programs Division. Under the general direction of the SELPA Director or Designee, the Special Education Teacher, Deaf and Hard of Hearing will provide instruction to students with a range of hearing impairments within the SELPA.

This position will serve the various districts within the South County SELPA. Fluency in ASL preferred.

*** About South County SELPA The South County SELPA coordinates special education program development and student placements for more than 11,000 students from birth through age 22. They operate in the southern region of San Diego County and member districts include the elementary and high school districts of Coronado, Chula Vista, National, San Ysidro, South Bay, Sweetwater and San Diego County Office of Education programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires the following Education and Experience and Certificates, Licenses, Credentials
:

Education and Experience:

Education:Bachelor’s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or other related field; and,

Experience:Experience in the areas of learning disabilities, ESL, project-based learning, team teaching and high school experience is highly desirable

- OR -

Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to bachelor’s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or other related field and experience in the areas of learning disabilities, ESL, project-based learning, team teaching and high school experience is highly desirable.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

  • Valid Educational Specialist credential with authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
  • CLAD or equivalent English Learner Authorization
  • CPR and First Aid certification are highly desirable

  • Copy of valid CPR and First Aid certification if applicable
  • Copy of transcripts verifying bachelor’s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or other related field
  • Any additional certifications you would like considered

A stipend of $6,000, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018 who have not received payment under this clause prior to July 1, 2023, hold state certification and are employed as Audiologists, Speech Hearing and Language Specialists, or in positions requiring authorizations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Visually Impaired (VI) or Orientation and Mobility (O&M).

The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year.

This position is also eligible for Article XV:
Salary, Section 2.C.5.B of the negotiated agreement between SDCOE and SDCAE.
